Ust-Luga Cup 2017, being the greatest Baltic Sea professional trade sails regatta, salutes the sixth season. The very first races under “One sea, One trade, One destiny” motto took place in 2012 and were dedicated to 10th anniversary of Ust-Luga Marine Port founding.
During past years the regatta has made a huge step forward, transforming from a small corporate event into popular sails race with big number of Russian and foreign participants. The regatta is conducted with support of Ministry of Transport of Russian Federation and All-Russian Yachting Federation.
This year Ust-Luga Cup is taking place along southern shores of Finland (route Espoo-Helsinki-Loviisa-Kotka) and will complete with winners Award Ceremony in St.Petersburg on June 16.
As usual teams of non-professional yachtsmen – representatives of port companies and their partners – take part in the races. Amongst permanent participants are the companies that stood at the origins of the regatta: OAO “Russian Railways”, OAO “Rosterminalugol”, OAO “Ust-Luga Co”, ZAO “CMM”, Russian Maritime Shipping Register, FGUP “Rosmorport”.
Representatives of foreign companies – “Eesti Raudtee” (Estonia) and “VR Transpoint” (Finland) – are also taking part in 2017 races. New Russian teams will join the ranks as well.
Ust-Luga Cup regatta will be completed by traditional Award Ceremony on Zayachiy Island. This spot, with the view of central city embankments, has been chosen not by chance – it reminds the participants of maritime traditions of St.Petersburg and brings us back to times when Neva River was colourfully decorated by sails and pennants of different European ships.
The Ceremony’s culmination is awarding the regatta’s winning team the challenge Ust-Luga Cup.
